Flor Quinto grew up moving from city to city in her native México before settling in California. The constant upheaval left her attached to the emotional weight of objects and aware of how quickly things pass.

Exposure to experimental art and music moved her practice from representational painting toward repurposing the objects of her youth in layered mediums like resin and encaustic wax. Her work examines her own conflicts around attachment, beauty standards, memory, and impermanence.

I have always been caught between attachment and the ritual of letting go. That tension shows up in objects that no longer have a practical purpose and still refuse to disappear. The forgotten fragments that accumulate in the corners of my life are the lifeblood of my work.

In the studio I am both participant and medium. I begin by holding an object. I hover over the plane and wait for the moment when placement feels inevitable, letting emotion guide my hands as I uncover the narratives hidden in discarded material.

Resin, wax, and paint flow between the remnants and create connections I did not plan. Warped tape becomes drawing. CD fragments catch light like jewels. Lipstick melts, pills scatter, letters yellow into new meaning.

I want to make large-scale work that makes a viewer pause, break from routine for a second, and maybe look back at their own patterns. A moment of self-awareness. I want to remind them that our world is made of infinite variations of matter, constantly reorganizing at different speeds, and that we are bodies constantly regenerating. Everything else, the connections we create consciously or unconsciously, is driven by human initiative.

We are all co-creating our reality. I find peace and power in that awareness, and I want to share the feeling with others, even if only for a moment.
